I want to discuss the uncomfortable topic of money, and how we as record labels should broach this delicate subject with our artists…
Here are some things to keep in mind when discussing finances…
1. Do it early! Start talking about money as early as possible to avoid establishing any unattainable expectations!
2. Do your research! Talk to other record labels, make a budget, talk to suppliers, and be able to justify your royalty share!
3. Be transparent! Don’t assume that artists know as much as you — show them how everything works — be honest about your finances!
